Rambling Roots launched in Spring 2023 after we, Hannah and Ben, spent years talking about working for ourselves doing something we love. Hannah has been a keen cook since childhood, enjoying experimenting with recipes and ingredients, and cooking for friends and family. After we met in New Zealand in 2015 and travelled together (sampling lots of street food along the way), we decided to move to a plant based diet for environmental and ethical reasons. This ignited a new passion for plant based cooking, and Hannah undertook several training courses - through Leith’s School of Cookery; at Demuth’s in Bath; and at River Green in Norwich.

The classes at River Green led to a job in the professional kitchen and the realisation that plant based cooking could become a career. Working as Sous Chef, Hannah had opportunities to create dishes for the menu and design menus for special events. In March 2022 Hannah competed in the plant based live theatre competition at the International Salon Culinaire in London, and was awarded Best in Class for her Nepalese inspired dumpling dish (the prize was a trip to the Unox commercial oven factory in Venice - genuinely fascinating, do ask her about it!)

Ben worked as a wooden boat builder after training at the International Boat Building College in Lowestoft, and now takes the lead on many of the practical tasks at Rambling Roots and made all of our wooden frontage and counter displays. He’s a keen gardener and even grows some of the produce that we use in our dishes.

We want to provide real, wholesome and hearty food choices for people, with fresh and interesting flavours inspired by global cuisines. Food that everyone can enjoy whether they’re vegan or not. And using quality ingredients too - from local suppliers including Hodmedods, Meadow Harvest and Easters. We cook from scratch and make all of our sauces, marinades, curries and more in our kitchen in Norwich. We’re looking forward to growing our business and seeing where it can take us…
